Like Volleyball With Your Feet: The Korean Sport of Jokgu

With a history that dates back over 1,300 years, jokgu is the only ball sport that originated in South Korea. It requires great skill, balance and technique. Picture four-per-side volleyball on grass, but played with the feet, and you have the basic idea. We caught up with Lee Kwang-Jae—a 15-year veteran of the sport—who currently plays for the team Joykick Sports. A lot of people in the country see jokgu as merely a pastime, but Kwang-Jae hopes it will gain as much recognition as Korea’s other popular sports, like soccer, baseball and basketball.
