I Live on a Boat. Here’s How I’m Fighting Coronavirus Boredom

Like millions of us around the world right now, Great Big Story producer Jacob is staying at home to help stop the spread of coronavirus. But for Jacob, home is a houseboat outside of London, and the River Great Ouse is his backyard. Spending that much time at home, however, is making him go a bit stir crazy. So, he set a challenge for himself. Inspired by Lizzie Carr—a paddleboarder who used her sport to clean up plastic pollution in England’s waterways—Jacob took matters into his own hands and decided to try to do some good while in lockdown. His goal? Pick up 1,000 pieces of trash in one week while kayaking. He discovered a lot along the way—including lemons. So many lemons.
